Constantly Clogging & Slow Flushing Toilets
Does your toilet clog easily? Does it refill slowly, or take a long time to flush?
This is a common problem in many residential and commercial bathrooms. Slow-flushing toilets take extra time empty the bowl and as a consequence use more water in the process, leading to higher utility costs. Water waste from a slow flushing toilet can raise annual water bills by $300 or more¹.
Don’t let your hard-earned money get flushed down the drain. If your toilet runs slow or clogs easily call the expert team of plumbers at Andy’s Pipe Dream, we’ll be right out to fix the issue!
4 Common Causes of a Slow-Flushing Toilet
A slow-flushing toilet is on the list of “most frequent plumbing problems in homes”. Although there are countless reasons that a toilet can have a weak or slow flush, the following are among the most common reasons:
Not Enough Water in the Toilet’s Tank
When you flush your toilet, the water from the tank flows into the bowl, creating a downward suction that flushes the toilet’s contents down the drain. However, if you don’t have enough water in the tank, the flush becomes weak and ineffective, resulting in the need to repeat flushes.
A Clogged Drain
Is another frequent cause of slow-flushing toilets. Blockages are often caused by someone accidentally flushing something they shouldn’t down the toilet, like toys, Q-tips, feminine hygiene products, and even so called “flushable” wipes. However, blockages can occur beyond the toilet in the sewer line. Learn more about how to Unclog Your Toilet.
Clogged Toilet Bowl Rim Jets
Beneath the rim of the toilet bowl, water expels from the water tank into the bowl. This is what creates the flush. Sometimes mineral deposits can build up around the rim jets, creating blockages that will slow a toilet’s ability to flush effectively. Andy’s Pipe Dream Plumbing recommends enzymatic cleaner to remove these types of mineral deposits, and to help your toilet work good as new.
Problems with the Flapper Valve
The rubber stopper at the bottom of the toilet tank is called the flapper valve. Problems with flapper valves can vary from the handle’s chain being too tight, not allowing enough slack for the valve to close completely, to the flapper itself wearing out over time, creating leaks. Regardless of the reason, a problem with the flapper valve usually results in what we call phantom flushing, which also decreases a toilet’s flushing strength significantly.
